My Visit To The Optometrist

wmeng24 | August 29, 2006

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Well I did go to the optometrist on Friday.

I want to firstly apologise for not updating the blog sooner…. I imagine some readers were anxious to find out about the visit. Anyways, the optometrist told me that there doesn’t seem to be any improvement in my eyesight… I am  still 20/400.

So, what does this mean for me. Well if you remember the Commitment I made earlier this month (My Commitment), I indicated that regardless of the results of the test, I would continue doing the eye exercises for at least three weeks thereafter and then have another test done. This is what I am going to do. Also I would have the test done by another optician.

I am also encouraged to do a bit more research on using eye exercises to improve vision.

I Have Made The Appointment With The Optician

wmeng24 | August 18, 2006

Well I have made an appointment with the optician. This is so that I can check to see if there have been any improvement in my eyesight.

The appointment is next week Friday ( 25th August). This is the soonest appointment I could have gotten.

The Best Time To Do Eye Exercises

wmeng24 | August 17, 2006

Good Day All. I have been doing the exercises regularly as promised.

In the Vision For Life kit, it is recommended that the eye exercises be done in the mornings, when your eyes are “fresh”. I have found that there is another benefit to doing the eye exercises in the morning.

For me, there is a greater chance of not doing the exercises if I leave it to be done in the night, simply because I am more tired from the day of working.

For the past week, I have done the exercises every morning (and once at night). I believe that the reason for the regularity is just that.

Today I am going to make my appointment to see the optician next week.

Well I didn’t do the exercises last night… but I made sure to do them this morning and I intend to do them tonight. Today I started to think about how my daily activities are affecting any progress that would be made by doing the eye exercises.
For example, I do a lot of work on the computer. This means that my eyes would be focused on a close object for quite some time. Surely this sort of activity can’t have a positive effect on my progress.

Anyways, I remembered that the Vision For Life Program recommends doing the following while working on the computer. It’s referred to as the 10-10-10 Rule:

Every time you are performing close vision work for over 10 consecutive minutes, look up and focus on anything that is at least 10 feet away, for at least 10 seconds. This simple rule helps to prevent the damaging effects of near-point stress and could literally save your eyesight!

There are some other Vision Tips related to computer use (for example, the one I posted about reducing computer eyestrain) and I would post an article some time next week.

I Have Been Keeping My Commitment.

wmeng24 | August 10, 2006

I am happy to say that I am proceeding nicely… I have done the exercises everyday since I made the commitment.

Ever so often, I receive an email from someone indicating that they are also trying the Vision For Life Program themselves. I want to encourage such people to post their progress on the blog as well. It would serve as encouragement for those who are considering eye exercises to improve vision.

Proceeding as Intended

wmeng24 | August 6, 2006

This is just an update to let you all know that I am proceeding as intended in my two week commitment. I have done the eye exercises everyday since then and I had a glass of carrot juice today. I hope to keep it up.

Continuing Exercises & A Commitment to Myself

wmeng24 | August 3, 2006

I have continued doing the eye exercises. I have also made the following commitments to myself:

  • I will try to do the eye exercises every single day over the next two weeks
  • Since I have found that in the past I have missed a few days, there are some easier exercises (the easier ones) that I would try to do whenever I can… a few minutes here, a few minutes there, etc.
  • After the two weeks I will have an eye test done to see if there are any improvements
  • Regardless of the results of the test, I would continue doing the eye exercises for at least three weeks thereafter and then have another test done
  • I will try to drink carrot juice at least twice a week
  • I will, as much as is possible, try to go about my daily activities without using my glasses

I have made these commitments because I really want to see if these eye exercises do actually improve vision. I want to thank all the readers who have written comments and have emailed me with words to spur me on. It has been quite encouraging… Thank you.

William
